HOW TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH 

IMPORTANCE OF BRUSHING

        The right method of Brushing is one of the most Important aspect for the good "ORAL CARE". Improper brushing not only leads to Cavities, along with cavities it leads to Abrasion [concave on outer surface of teeth], Gum Infections, Bad Mouth Breath, Yellowish colour of the Teeth.

        Brushing teeth daily twice is a important care of teeth. Along with brushing using inter-dental aids like:  Dental Floss, Interdental Brush, Toothpicks helps in removing of Bacteria, Plaque, Food particles from gum line and aids cleaning between teeth and prevents the formation of dental caries              



SELECTION OF TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTH PASTE:

         Most Commonly Soft bristle Tooth brush is recommended for cleaning teeth everyday. Soft bristle tooth brush is also available in EXTRA SOFT BRISTLE toothbrush, and these are recommended to persons with sensitivity,[Attrition, Abrasion, and Erosion],and the children below 5 years old.

     In general terms, fluoride tooth paste is most recommended, because it prevents cavities and strengthens the Enamel.[outer layer of tooth]

     And the persons with sensitivity are recommended to use toothpaste that is prepared to reduce sensitivity - though you should check with your Dentist.

Note: Hard bristle brush and toothpaste containing Abrasive materials cause shedding of more enamel from teeth and that leads to sensitivity of Teeth.



HOW TO BRUSH:

FOR ADULTS:

    Most commonly recommended brushing technique is Bass technique.

  • Place your toothbrush at a 45° angle to the teeth.

     

  • Gently move the brush very short back- and- forth motions.

  • Brush the outer surface, inner surface and chewing surfaces of teeth.

          

  • To clean the inner surface front teeth, tilt the toothbrush vertically and make several up-and –down strokes.



 

 

FOR CHILDREN:

    Most commonly recommended brushing technique is Fones technique.

FRONT TEETH  

  • Put your front teeth edge to edge contact and place your toothbrush against the teeth and move a circular motion on outer surface of teeth.

  • To clean the inner surface front teeth, tilt the toothbrush vertically and make several up-and –down stroke.

 


BACK TEETH:

  • Bite the upper and lower teeth, place the toothbrush against your teeth with 90° angle and make a circular motion [Upper gum line to Lower gum line] on outer surface.
     
  • Open the mouth and follow the same motion for inner surface also.

  • And for chewing surface place your toothbrush on occlusal [chewing side] surface and move back-and-forth motions.
